Giulia Di Bella, DO
Hometown: Chula Vista, CA
Undergraduate school: University of California, San Diego
Undergraduate major: Human Biology
Medical school: Western University of Health Sciences
Favorite thing about emergency medicine: I love the variety of pathology and acuity of patients, the fast pace of the Emergency Department and the ability to perform life-saving procedures
Why Kaweah for residency: I rotated at Kaweah as a fourth year medical student and instantly felt like a valued member of the team. The program leadership, faculty, residents and ED staff were all so friendly and welcoming. Everyone was genuinely excited about teaching and working at Kaweah! I also really fell in love with the diverse community in Visalia and I knew this was the patient population I wanted to serve. The large catchment area, combined with the unopposed training and variety of pathology, makes Kaweah Health the perfect place for me to train to be an excellent Emergency Medicine physician!
Favorite day-off activities: Painting, hiking, cooking, Sunday (or any day) brunch, wine tasting, live concerts
Previous life before medicine: I worked in non-profit before going to medical school!
Best place you’ve traveled: Rome, Italy
Best meal you’ve eaten: My mom’s lasagna, hands down. It always hits the spot!
Favorite book: “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz
Favorite movie: Stand and Deliver
Favorite quotes or words you live by: “You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. ” – Desiderata By Max Ehrmann
Special interests within emergency medicine: Social EM and medical education, specifically the development of pipeline programs into medicine for under-represented minority students
Random fact about yourself: I was born in Italy! My parents, older sister and I moved to the U.S. when I was six years old after my mom was selected as a winner in the Green Card Lottery! My extended family still lives in Italy and we try to go back as often as we can to visit them
