Favorite thing about emergency medicine: The variety. There’s always new things to encounter and no two days are the same.
Why Kaweah for residency: I wanted a community setting where I’d see a wide variety of patients, but you can get that at a lot of programs; when it came to rank list time it was the people here that made the decision for me. As a student I was pushed to step out of my comfort zone which I was able to do since I always felt confident that I had residents and faculty right there supporting me. The residents were happy, friendly, and fun to hang out with. This is a family I knew I’d be happy spending 3 years with
Favorite day-off activities: Hiking or climbing in Sequoia, swimming in the lake, lounging by the pool with my co-residents
Previous life before medicine: I was an EMT and ED unit clerk for 6 years prior to going to medical school
Future goals and dreams: Nothing fancy. Grow up, become a real adult. Have a job I enjoy and people to hang out with. travel more.
Best place you’ve traveled: Zion National Park, when it was practically deserted
Best meal you’ve eaten: Alligator sausage with spicy mustard from the French Quarter in New Orleans. Worth going back just for the food.
Favorite book: Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet (although I never say no to reading Harry Potter for the 100th time)
Favorite quotes or words to live by:Â Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetence.
Special interests within emergency medicine: I’m interested in wilderness medicine and women’s health
