Favorite thing about emergency medicine: I enjoy working in the emergency room far more than any other department in the hospital. I am drawn to the fast-paced, high-pressure, multi-task driven environment where cohesive and collaborative teamwork is of fundamental importance. Emergency medicine demands familiarity with a wide breadth of presentations in a far more expansive patient population than other specialties. Over time, I have come to recognize that working with pediatric, geriatric, minority, and underserved populations is essential to my fulfillment as a physician. Similarly, I feel the role of the physician extends beyond the hospital, and working in the emergency department provides a unique opportunity to develop my role as a community advocate
Why Kaweah for residency: Community/County hospital experience where I can learn and exercise a broad scope of practice and procedures. Living in Visalia with easy access to the Sierras is a major perk!
Favorite day-off activities: Rock climbing, mountain biking, backpacking or hanging with family and friends at the river, on the trail, or at a local brewery.
Previous life before medicine: Multiple lives before medicine include collegiate/semi-professional bike racing, percussionist, and early career as a botanist.
Favorite movie:Â Boogie Nights
New COVID-19 quarantine hobbies:Â Woodworking and learning guitar
Special interests within emergency medicine: Critical Care, Ultrasound
Random fact about yourself: My wife is way cooler, kinder, and smarter than me. I make the best gumbo west of the Mississippi. Pride of Arizona (UofA) snare drummer in college. Won both state and national championships in endurance mountain biking when I was young and spunky.
