Providing top notch education in the clinical environment can be challenging. Teaching on top of patient care, documentation, and productivity demands often seems impossible. The truth is, doctors are not trained to teach, they are trained to diagnose and treat. So it is not surprising that most finding teaching difficult. Fortunately, with the right approach, teaching in this environment is not only possible, it’s easy! The 3T Teaching Blueprint is this approach. This blueprint allows great doctors to become great teachers.
The 3T teaching blueprint makes teaching medicine easy. The 3T Teaching Blueprint has 3 steps:
- Table (set the Table for teaching)
- Teach (Teach rapidly and efficiently)
- Talk (Talk about performance).
Follow the links below for more information on each component of the 3T teaching blueprint.
Table setting
“Setting the Table for teaching” is the first step in the teaching blue print. It consists of two main focus areas, setting expectations and diagnosing the learner.
Teaching
“Teaching rapidly and efficiently” is the second step of the teaching blueprint. It is divided into three domains Spotting it (recognizing teaching opportunities), Seizing it (delivering the education) and Sticking it (making the teaching stick).
Talking
“Talking about performance” is the third step of the teaching blue print. It centers around providing feedback and evaluation.
